Help and support
Something wrong, or need a hand? Here’s how to reach us, and how to report things in the app.
If someone is in danger right now, call 000.
Then tell us at safety@gochatta.com.
Contact us
- Help with the app: support@gochatta.com
- Safety concerns and urgent reports: safety@gochatta.com
- Privacy questions and requests: privacy@gochatta.com
Tell us your username, what happened, which chatpoint (place), roughly when, and add a screenshot if you can.
We act on reports within 24 hours, and we get back to every email within 24 hours. Privacy requests, like asking for a copy of your information, are completed within 30 days.
Report something in the app
- A message in a chat: press and hold it, then tap Report message.
- A Moment: tap Report on the Moment, or use the ••• menu in the feed.
- A private message: press and hold it, then tap Report message. For a Moment someone sent you, tap Report this Moment.
- A profile photo: open the person’s profile, then tap Report profile photo.
- An event: open it, then tap Report event.
- A topic or poll: open it, then tap Report topic or Report poll.
- A local report (like “Long queue”): tap it, then tap Report.
Reports go to Chatta, not to the person you report. If you think someone is under 16, choose “May be under 16”.
Block someone
Press and hold one of their messages, or open their profile, and tap Block. They aren’t told. Blocked people can’t see your chat messages, Moments, topics or polls, and you won’t see theirs. You may still see each other’s events and local reports. To unblock someone, go to Settings → Blocked people.
What happens after you report
- We act on reports within 24 hours.
- If several people report the same thing, it can be hidden straight away while we look.
- When something breaks the community guidelines, we remove it, and we can pause, suspend or remove the account that posted it.
- Serious matters may go to the police, the eSafety Commissioner or the Australian Centre to Counter Child Exploitation (ACCCE).
Not on Chatta?
You don’t need an account to tell us about something. If a post on Chatta is about you, shows you without your OK, or uses your work without permission, email safety@gochatta.com with:
- the chatpoint (place) name,
- roughly when it was posted,
- what it says or shows, with a screenshot if you have one,
- and how we can contact you.
Chat messages and Moments disappear after 8 hours, so the sooner you tell us, the easier it is to find.
Serious harm and eSafety
If you’ve reported something and we haven’t dealt with it, or it’s serious online abuse, you can report it to the eSafety Commissioner at esafety.gov.au/report. eSafety deals with cyberbullying of children, adult cyber abuse, intimate images shared without consent, and illegal online content.
Child sexual abuse material: don’t share it, screenshot it or send it to us. Report it to the ACCCE at accce.gov.au/report, then tell us where you saw it.
Common questions
Why can’t I post?
To post in a chatpoint you need to be there, with Location turned on for Chatta and Precise Location on. You also need to have done the 16+ check and agreed to the community guidelines. If 3 of your posts were removed within a week, posting is paused for 24 hours.
Where did my post go?
Posts disappear from the app when their time is up, which for most posts is 8 hours. If yours went sooner, the safety check or the chatpoint’s host may have removed it. If you think that’s a mistake, email support@gochatta.com and we’ll take another look.
How do I delete my account?
In the app, go to Settings → Delete account. The privacy policy explains what’s deleted and what can remain.
How do I stop notifications?
On your iPhone, go to Settings → Notifications → Chatta.
